As loopers saw some major changes arrive in the v21.10 update last week, Epic announced its July Crew Pack cosmetics which come with the usual combo but this time around, also comes with an exclusive Save The World access to subscribers.

Phaedra arrives to the island with July Fortnite Crew Pack

Fortnite July Crew pack brings ‘A dark sea witch with unknowable power’ to the game. Phaedra hits the Item Shop on July 1st with the rest of the crew pack bonuses subscribers usually get.

The July Crew pack features a Phaedra outfit with an additional selectable style, a Ceph back bling that looks like a squid, an Inky Reflection Loading Screen, a Gothic Shadesoarer glider and a Stygian Parasol pickaxe, both of which resembles an umbrella. In addition to those subscribers will get a free Battle Pass, 1000 V-Bucks and an exclusive access to Save The World PVE campaign.

Moreover, players who already own the Battle Pass, will be getting 950 V-Bucks back in addition to the 1000 V-Bucks as a Crew Pack Bonus. For $11.99, this crew pack offers a lot more than its value and is bang for the buck for those who want to purchase it or subscribe to it.

However, loopers can also subscribe to the current Mecha Strike Commander Crew Pack to get both the cosmetics of June’s as well as July’s crew packs right in their lockers, with the V-Bucks and Save The World access the latter promises.

Fortnite revealed the upcoming May 2021 Crew Pack which comes with a membership exclusive skin, the game’s original Save The World mode, and Spotify Premium.

Epic Games introduced the Fortnite Crew Subscription service during Chapter 2 Season 5. For $11.99 USD a month players would receive an exclusive skin set, 1,000 V-Bucks, and instant access to the current season’s Battle Pass.

As Fortnite has continued the service, it has also sweetened the deal by including memberships to other subscription services like Disney+. For the month of May, subscribers are being offered more for their money than ever before.

The May Fortnite Crew Pack will offer the Deimos skin set which comes with a pickaxe, back bling, and weapon wrap. This also includes Deimos’ green skin variants and a loading screen background. Fortnite’s Deimos is a modernized depiction of the Greek god of dread.

Deimos will also be introduced as a playable character in Fortnite’s original Save The World game mode. Fortnite launched in 2017 with only the Save The World mode but was popularized when the Battle Royale mode launched a few months later. May Fortnite Crew members will also gain permanent access to Save The World.

Subscribers are also being offered three months of Spotify Premium for free. However, this offer is only available to new Spotify Premium customers. Existing or previous customers will have to create a new account if they want to redeem this offer. The offer expires on June 30, 2021 at 8 p.m. EST.

The May Crew membership comes with the normal monthly benefits such as access to the Battle Pass and 1,000 V-Bucks. Epic Games stated that every Thursday during the month of May, Fortnite Crew members would receive special in-game bonuses.

While the weekly benefits remain a mystery, it will be interesting to see what Fortnite has in store for players. Whether or not you like the feeling of opening random loot boxes in video games, it seems to be on its way out. We’re at the point where governments are even getting involved, calling these systems “gambling” that’s aimed at children.

On the whole, loot boxes are bad for the consumer. Instead of buying the cosmetics you want, loot boxes force you to gamble that you’ll get something cool and useful. You could, but you could also get something you’ll never use.

Loot boxes have been an extremely successful source of profit for a lot of game developers. Some are more predatory than others, as they offer in-game advantages that reward players for gambling real-world money.

Fortnite V-Buck compensation

In its early days, Fortnite was no different from a lot of these games. When Fortnite was Save the World-only, they offered random loot boxes in the form of Loot Llamas. You could gain powerful schematics and rare characters from these loot boxes, giving the game a pay-to-win feel.

Once Battle Royale took off, Epic changed the system in favor of a more transparent model. With their BR offering, Epic also changed the gaming monetization landscape for the better with the introduction of the Battle Pass. Now, you’d be hard-pressed to find a game that doesn’t offer such a system.

Years after discontinuing loot boxes, Epic are compensating players who purchased items through their old system. “With preliminary approval for a class action settlement,” they wrote in a blog post, “We’re awarding 1,000 V-Bucks to anyone that purchased a random Loot Llama. While this settlement was for U.S. players only, we have decided to make this benefit available to players globally.”

This reward extends to one of Epic’s new properties, Rocket League. Epic purchased Psynoix, Rocket League’s developer, in 2019. Since then, they completely redesigned their monetization system – moving it away from a CS:GO-style crate & key system and toward the Fortnite Battle Pass system.

Rocket League players who purchased keys will also receive 1,000 Rocket League coins – enough to unlock the current Rocket Pass.

Whether you’re a fan of Fortnite or not, there’s no denying that Epic have helped change gaming monetization for the better. Loot boxes are on their way out of gaming, and Epic played a huge role in that shift.
